What to do in Cuneo

Arcades, mountains half an hour away and some of the best food in Italy.

Cuneo

Cuneo is walkable and lived under its arcades: eight kilometres of them keep the centre dry when it rains and shaded when the sun beats down. It is a town on the way to the valleys, but it is worth stopping: the food is good, walking is easy and the mountains are half an hour away.

In town

Piazza Galimberti and the arcadesThe great square is the living room of the town: Via Roma and the arcaded old centre start from here. The right place for your first coffee and for aperitivo.
Viale degli AngeliA long tree-lined avenue running down to the Gesso and Stura river park: a walk or a run, with the mountains in front of you.
The sweetsCuneesi al rum were born here: filled chocolates you buy in the old pastry shops in the centre and take home.
The marketThe Cuneo market is one of the largest in Piedmont and fills the central squares: fruit, cheeses from the valleys and stalls of every kind.

Nearby

The Lurisia spaAbout half an hour by car: thermal baths, famously light water and woods. We have three homes there, for anyone who wants to sleep surrounded by green.
The valleys and the Maritime Alps parkValle Gesso, Valle Stura, Valle Pesio: trails, mountain huts and lakes. In winter, ski slopes less than an hour from the centre.
Mondovì and the Vicoforte sanctuaryIn Mondovì a funicular takes you up to the Piazza quarter. Nearby stands the Vicoforte sanctuary, with the largest elliptical dome in the world.
Alba and the LangheAn hour away and you are among the vineyards: Alba, truffles, the Unesco hills. A full day trip, taken slowly.

When to come

Spring and autumn are the best months for walking and for eating. In summer the town stays cool in the evening and the valleys are an escape from the heat. In winter the snow is close and the centre lights up for the holidays.
